Change It Anyway

In the last week Trump’s Administration has issued a hurricane of Executive Orders directly targeting women, inclusivity, and especially the transgender population. There is nothing subtle about it – this is direct persecution.

And yet…. Where are the protests? Where are the marches? Where is the outcry of support and calls for unity?

All I hear is silence….and silence is dangerous, friends. Silence is really dangerous.

But what can we do as a society? The problem feels so big, how do we solve it? We solve it one step at a time with a simple word: NO

Actually, we should say HELL NO.

• The School Districts should say “Hell No”, we aren’t going to provide school for any child if we can’t provide them safely for everyone.
• The Hospitals should say “Hell No”: We aren’t going to provide medical treatments for anyone if we can’t care for everyone.
• The Teachers should say “Hell No”: We aren’t going to teach anyone if we can’t teach everyone.
• Businesses should say “Hell No”: We aren’t going to eliminate practices that are inclusive of everyone.
• Federal funded programs should say “Hell No”: We will provide our services to everyone or no one.

We don’t have to submit and roll over on our backs. We can say “NO”…. and if we all say “NO” together then we can make change. There should be riots and protests and walk-outs and strikes…Because if one of our community is suffering persecution, we all need to feel it and stand in solidarity….. This is how change works – sometimes it takes everyone to feel the pain of a select few.

….and yet I hear… nothing. I hear silence. Is it fear? Is it disinterest?

Democrats are too damn polite and this is not a time to be polite. I hear a lot of people close to me saying they are just "turning off the news"….. but how does that help? It doesn't – that is part of the problem.

People are so focused on their own personal well-being that they are closing themselves off to the world at the peril of their friends and family and community around them. This is the goal of the Administration and we are letting it happen: They are attempting to overwhelm us by dropping trauma bombs every day and we can’t live underground in a shelter. We have to say NO, we won't live like that.

We need to rise up as a population – not just Democrats, but Republicans too. I know that millions of Republicans are also having a moment thinking….. Wait a second, I just wanted better prices on eggs…. I didn’t want all of this.

No sane individual wants the direct persecution of their fellow humans and it’s ok to acknowledge that, no matter who you voted for.

Because when it comes to living together and supporting each other as a human race and cohesive society, we should all be saying “HELL NO” right now.
